Hello! My name is Gretchen Ammentorp. I’m from St. Louis, Missouri and now attend the University of Missouri-Columbia for college. My major is Plant Science, with an emphasis in horticulture. I am in my final year of my degree, planning to graduate in December of 2023.
I’ve had a passion for horticulture since I was a sophomore in high school, when I volunteered for the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis. It was an eye-opening experience; I realized when I was there that being in that environment was incredibly fulfilling for me. I loved teaching visitors in the Children’s Garden about the natural flora and fauna of Missouri. I was also able to attend fascinating workshops and see the behind the scenes of the botanical gardens. Since then, I’ve had no doubt that a career in horticulture would be the most fulfilling life path for me.
Once I graduate from Mizzou, I’m hoping to move back to St. Louis or to Chicago to work in landscape design or at a public garden. I would love to get to wake up every day knowing I get to create beautiful gardens. Outside of my professional interests, I love rock climbing, reading, and traveling to gain new experiences and see different cultures.
